There’s no how-to manual to help navigate the many challenges of being alive: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, religious baggage, sexual and gender identity questions, or staying focused amongst many competing forces looking to capture your time. Nevertheless, here you are. Trying your best. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, exhausted. Maybe wondering if you’re doing it “wrong.” I can promise you: you're not.

At Violet Counseling, I believe you’re not broken – you’re simply responding to a world that doesn’t always make space for your magnificent, messy self. I'm here to help you make sense of your story, ask good questions, and hold space for both the heavy stuff and the laughs. Because therapy doesn’t have to be all serious, all the time!

Beyond the Couch: What Makes Violet Counseling Different?

When I founded Violet Counseling in Dallas, TX, in early 2025, it was from a deep passion to create something truly different. I saw a need for affirming, identity-conscious therapy – a space where you wouldn't have to explain yourself, or feel like "traditional" therapy just wasn't built for your brain. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, narrative, curious, and yes, even fun. I’m here to help you make sense of your story, not fix you.

As a queer and genderqueer/non-binary person myself, I know the journey of self-discovery can be complex, especially if you’re a "late bloomer" like me. My personal path has deeply shaped how I work, emphasizing that there's always time to become the person you want to be. All it takes is the first step.

"Affirming" goes beyond mere acceptance; it means my commitment is to actively celebrate and advocate for your authentic self, especially for my LGBTQIA+ and trans/gender questioning clients. This creates a truly safe, informed, and empowering space where you never have to educate your therapist on your existence, allowing you to trust that I'm fully equipped to support you.

How does your personal experience as genderqueer/non-binary impact your work as a therapist?

My lived experience as a genderqueer/non-binary person, particularly in coming to understand my identity later in life, is a core part of my expertise. It means I bring a deep, firsthand understanding of navigating ambiguity, societal pressures, and the complex journey of self-discovery. This personal experience translates into authoritative empathy for life transitions, identity questions, and the challenges of fitting into systems not built for you, fostering a highly trustworthy and authentic therapeutic relationship.

Do you accept insurance for therapy sessions?

I don't directly accept insurance at this time. However, I believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health support. If you're interested in working together but the session cost is a concern, please reach out! I offer sliding scale pricing for clients to help make therapy more accessible. We can discuss this during your free 15-minute consultation.
